PSP Movies
The Sony Playstation Portable burst onto the
US gaming scene in 2005 to critical acclaim. Many may debate as
to whether or not it revolutionized the market for portable
gaming devices, but there can be no doubt that it raised the bar and
expectations far above where it had been previously. With graphics
rendering capabilities close to that of the Playstation 2, but
weighing only slightly over a half a pound, no doubt
considerable engineering talent was involved in the creation of
this device. Of course, the PSP would not be worth its salt if
it were not for the incredible color display which it sports.
This amazing LCD display utilizes the 16:9 format just like widescreen HDTVs (480 x 272 pixels resolution
in this case)
and is capable of displaying 16.77 million colors.
The Latest Movies to Go
The gaming attributes of the Sony
PSP have been discussed many times over in other
forums, so there is no need to rehash them here. The
Sony PSP is far more than just a gaming unit,
however. Instead it truly is a personal portable
entertainment device. In addition to the games and
support for MP3 music downloads, it also supports
playback of PSP movies, a capability which has
received much less fanfare. The PSP movies are
in the UMD (Universal Media Disc) format which is
capable of storing up to 1.8 Gb of data, more than
enough for a feature length movie and many of the
extras that consumers have become accustomed to with
DVDs. Some movie studios are even releasing combo
packs which include a new release in both DVD and
PSP movie format.
PSP Movies and More
With
the rich vivid color display and an advertised four
hour battery life, the PSP serves as a strong
platform for movies on the go. If you are strictly
in the market for a portable movie player, the PSP
is probably not the best option. However, if you are
interested in a complete portable entertainment
option, the Sony Playstation Portable offers a very
enticing and affordable package which supports
gaming, music downloads and the full Hollywood
experience with PSP movies.
